Starr County Welcomes Buffalo Wings & Rings®

Starr County (March 9, 2012) – The Starr County Industrial Foundation (SCIF) is excited to announce that with the support of the Rio Grande City EDC and the County of Starr it has secured the national franchise Buffalo Wings and Rings (BW&R). Slated to open late Summer 2012 this $1.2 million project is expected to create 40 jobs, “these positions range from management to entry level and are expected to generate an estimated payroll of over $600,000,“ said SCIF’s president Rose Benavidez. “We have been working diligently on this project for over two years, beginning with corporate approval, to site selection, as well as assuring the investor that Starr County is the obvious location for their future growth.”

From the onset, Rio Grande City’s Mayor Ruben Villarreal was very supportive and a key part of negotiations with the franchise owners. “During a time when many companies are staying away from rural areas, these individuals recognized the potential in our community and were willing to invest, these are forty jobs that we need,” said Villarreal.

BW&R issued the following press release:

The Buffalo Wings & Rings South Texas Stampede Continues Through the Valley

Multi-unit operators Gumaro and Christian Benavides, and investment partner, Raul Munoz plan for their third location in South Texas. Experienced franchisees, Gumaro and Christian Benavides, and investment partner, Raul Munoz, sealed the deal for a hot new Buffalo Wings & Rings® restaurant in Rio Grande City, Texas. The location is the third Buffalo Wings & Rings (BW&R) for the father-son duo, preceded by successful establishments in Edinburg and McAllen. Completion of the new Rio Grande City location is slated for late summer.

“The success of The Benavides is particularly encouraging, and epitomizes the Buffalo Wings & Rings’ next-generation franchise model,” said Philip Schram, Executive Vice President of Franchise Development for the chain. “We have committed to the future success of existing franchisees by supporting them with a superior brand that remains unique, yet competitive within the casual dining sect.”

The Rio Grande City BW&R will incorporate the chain’s new building design – one that offers customers a more engaging family-friendly atmosphere, as well as elevates the brand. “We have found great success with Buffalo Wings & Rings, and look forward to watching our new location evolve from the ground-up,” said Gumaro. “Rio Grande is an emerging market with excellent growth potential. We are certain our new location will be an extraordinary addition to the BW&R family of restaurants in The Valley.”

The Buffalo Wings & Rings menu features a wide array of fare suited to both adults and children, including traditional and boneless Buffalo-style wings, and hand-breaded chicken tenders – all available in nine sauces with five customizable levels of heat. Guests are encouraged to dunk their favorite wings in the Buffalo Wings & Rings homemade bleu cheese sauce. The menu also features massive burgers, salads, wraps, pitas and gyros, plus a full range of appetizers, including Buffalo Chicken Nachos, chili-drenched sloppy fries, quesadillas and mozzarella sticks. And who can forget the “little buffs?” A full kids menu is available.

Rio Grande City will enjoy these Buffalo Wings & Rings favorites alongside sporting events on several dozen televisions, featuring full access to NFL games, UFC events, NBA matches, college sports and much more. The family-friendly, sports-orientated atmosphere is a popular hang-out for family and friends wanting to catch up and connect while enjoying the game over foods they crave.
